When is the SpaceX IPO and can you buy Pre-IPO shares?

SpaceX shares could start trading on the US stock market via an initial public offering (IPO) in the future.

Founded in 2002, SpaceX is part of the companies controlled by Elon Musk. It provides satellites, spacecraft and space launchers as its primary focus. It was the first private company to both orbit a spacecraft and send a spacecraft to the International Space Station. Its Starlink satellite program has provided internet to nations worldwide and plans to launch more satellites into orbit with approval from the US authorities.

Stinging from previous discussions about public and private shares on Twitter, CEO Elon Musk has been coy with details. However, analysts predict that SpaceX or Starlink itself could have an IPO in the future.

Currently the only way to gain access to shares in Starlink is to buy SpaceX shares and you can read more about that in our Starlink section after signing up.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX nears $150 billion valuation!

The valuation of Elon Musk’s SpaceX hit near $150 billion following a share sale by existing investors in July.

SpaceX has an agreement with new and existing investors to sell up to $750 million in stock from insiders at US$80-US$81 a share, according to a copy of the purchase offer sent by CFO Bret Johnsen.

The company did not announce a raise of new capital at this time, with the purchase offer representing a secondary sale of existing shares. Musk in April said that the company does “not anticipate needing to raise funding” to further bolster the programs for Starship, Starlink and other initiatives.

SpaceX typically performs these secondary rounds about twice a year, to give employees and other company shareholders a chance to sell stock.

SpaceX continues to rank as one of the most valuable private companies in the world, classifying it as a “centicorn” or “hectocorn” – a $1 billion unicorn, 100 times over.

What is the current SpaceX share price?

At present investors are required to invest in shares of SpaceX and not Starlink, as Starlink is currently not entirely a separate entity. The general perception is that before the IPO Starlink will be spun off into a separate entity and shareholders in SpaceX will then be able to convert some or all of their shares into Starlink stock before the IPO lits.

The share price of SpaceX currently sits at US$80 and has been increasing every single year since the company started and has risen 400% over the last 3 years.

This is what makes pre-IPO shares in SpaceX which will then give you pre-IPO shares in Starlink such a good investment. You do not need to wait until the IPO lists to sell the shares, if you had invested just $20,000 US dollars in 2020, you could sell those shares now for over $80,000 US dollars, a 400% return.
